Cinder – Review

After a week of too short reading time, I finally made it to Marissa Meyer’s final explosion in her novel Cinder. I couldn’t love a book more – is all I am saying to that.

imagesCinder, the cyborg mechanic, lives with her two stepsisters and her stepmother in New Beijing – if you could call it living. Cinder is, to say so, Cinderella. She is exposed to terrible living standards caused by her stepmother and works as a mechanic – until she encounters the soon-to-be emperor, Prince Kai. And besides finding the Prince super charming, like the rest of the millions of girls in the Commonwealth, Cinder’s future is about to be turned upside down. Now she must try to safe her fate and the fate of the Commonwealth, but in order to keep everyone safe, she must first unravel secrets of her past…

First of all: I love this book. After reading so many incredibly great books this year, I didn’t think I could ever be in love this much again. The characters, the plot, the suspense  – Marissa Meyer brings everything on point.

Secondly, I loved this “retelling” theme. I have never been a fan of Princess Stories, but this is on a whole different level. The mixture of the original Cinderella Story and Cinder‘s world full of Cyborgs, technology and improvements is absolutely stunning.

In addition, I fell in love with the characters. Cinder is just relatable with her traumatic living conditions and is absolutely lovable, Adri and Pearl – the stepfamily – are perfect for throwing your shade at and Kai is just the being Kai – a perfect prince to match Cinder.

Furthermore, there was never a part where I felt bored during this book. As soon as things slowed down, the plot made sure to strike me once more with breaking news I wouldn’t have dreamed of coming up with.

To conclude, this book is entirely a masterpiece, I’m in love and I can’t wait to continue with the sequel, Scarlet!

I hope you enjoyed this review and have a great day!

  1. Great review! I actually bought this book ages ago, but still haven’t read it yet. Definitely plan on reading it within this year though, your review made it seem really good. I had no idea there was a sequel to Cinder, good to know!
