Top Ten Tuesday: books I read because of FOMO

Another Tuesday, I should be doing some home schooling, but oh well! Today I’ll be listing all the books I read because of FOMO – the fear of missing out. And while that might not be super obvious, there are quite a few books that I read because I wanted to be able to discuss them with the community! It was primarily in my younger days when I was more insecure about my posts and cared more for stats and followers and when I was new to my blog: I think that’s probably the case for most bloggers because they want to fit in and be part of the group. Now, however, I almost always read what I want and when I do read books that are super hyped (I do follow the hype train!), it’s not because I wish to discuss them with others, but because I am intrigued by the book itself, the discussion is the cherry on top!

#1 An Ember in the Ashes

An Ember in the Ashes (English Edition) eBook: Sabaa Tahir: Amazon ...

Everyone was talking about the third book in the series and were PRAISING it and so I felt kind of left out because I wasn’t able to discuss it alongside them! I read An Ember in the Ashes during the first year of my blog and while I was intrigued by the blog, my primary goal was to discuss it as well. I’m happy I read it because I actually ended up loving it, but the reason for reading it shouldn’t be FOMO.

#2 The Lunar Chronicles

Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles Book 1) (Dutch Edition) eBook ...

Tragically, FOMO was the reason I read The Lunar Chronicles. I am super happy I discovered this series, but my approach would be different. I’ve realized that it doesn’t matter whether you’re not part of a certain discussion here or there, focus on what makes you happens and therefore, read only what makes you happy! It might sound difficult, I used to read because of FOMO, but remember that we don’t need any additional pressure to our already stressful lives!

#3 Throne of Glass

Throne of Glass: Amazon.de: Maas, Sarah J.: Fremdsprachige Bücher

Sarah J. Maas had just released her second series and everyone was always mentioning Throne of Glass and before that, I’d never heard of the author nor the series. And so I took the opportunity and started reading the book. I haven’t yet read the rest of the series, but I’m happy I read the first book because it had a really gripping plot and amazing characters and I really have to continue at some point!

#4 Pride and Prejudice

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE: book (English Edition) eBook: JANE AUSTEN ...

I’ve never been the biggest classic literature fan, but I really feared I’d miss out on something if I didn’t read Pride and Prejudice. To be honest, I did really enjoy the book and I’m happy I read it because it makes me feel a tiny bit more educated – I’m just sad I read it because of FOMO and not because I really wanted to as a primary reason… But I guess we all learn at some point, and that’s the most important thing!

That’s all – I can’t remember any other books I bought because of FOMO! So, tell me: what you you think about FOMO, which books did you read related to it? Happy reading!

I'm a huge fan of Draco Malfoy, I love scones and tea time, I don't like horror movies and obviously I'm a huge book nerd.
