I am currently reading Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare and once more, I realized how breathtakingly deep Cassandra Clare’s books go and how incredibly much she’s able to pin feelings down and just state true and hurtful facts we all have to accept. So here are my favorite quotes from The Infernal Devices, The Mortal Instruments, The Dark Artifices and now The Last Hours.
“We do not get to choose when in our lives we feel pain,” said Matthew. “It comes when it comes, and we try to remember, even though we cannot imagine a day when it will release its hold on us, that all pain fades. All misery passes. Humanity is drawn to light, not darkness.”Chain of Gold, Matthew to James
This quote is the very reason I am writing this post. Matthew might be a little drunk, but his words are wise and he’s quite frankly my favorite character in this new series.
“I suppose there are a lot of useless things I could tell you,” he said in a low voice, as James drew back. “That is was probably better this happened sooner, and that it is better to have loved and lost than never to have lost at all, and all that. But it’s all rot, isn’t it?”Chain of Gold, Matthew to James
This quote is by far not the most poetic, but it reflects the truth perfectly: because no matter how many people quote these true and heartbreaking quotes, you still feel like shit when you get your heart broken and will have to be the one to get through it by yourself.
“When you love someone, they become a part of who you are. They’re in everything you do. They’re in the air you breathe and the water you drink and the blood in your veins. Their touch stays on your skin and their voice stays in your ears and their thoughts stay in your mind. You know their dreams because their nightmares pierce your heart and their good dreams are your dreams too. And you don’t think they’re perfect, but you know their flaws, the deep-down truth of them, and the shadows of all their secrets, and they don’t frighten you away; in fact you love them more for it, because you don’t want perfect. You want them. You want—”Lady Midnight, Julian to Dru
You see, paragraphs like these give you unrealistic expectations about love?!
“We are bound together, Emma, bound together—I breathe when you breathe, I bleed when you bleed, I’m yours and you’re mine, you’ve always been mine, and I have always, always belonged to you!”Lady Midnight, Julian to Emma
I have no words – this book will always be one of the most intense emotional books I have ever read and this story will never be cease to touch the reader’s heart.
“There is no pretending,” Jace said with absolute clarity. “I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I’ll love you then.”City of Glass, Jace to Clary
Again, really unrealistic expectations here. Not everyone meets a Jace so overly in love with Clary.
“One must always be careful of books,” said Tessa, “and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”Clockwork Angel, Tessa
And now to get away from the love quotes and onto the bookish ones. And it’s so true – quite the reason why this post is written, why I thought about it and over all, why I am writing a blog about books.
“Only the very weak-minded refuse to be influenced by literature and poetry.”Clockwork Angel
So very true. So very true.
That’s it for today! Tell me, which was your favorite quote on this list and which ones by CC you love as well? Feel free to comment! Happy reading!
