Top Ten Tuesday: popular books I’ll probably never read!

It’s Tuesday again and today’s theme is a freebie, so I came up with this one (no guarantee that it isn’t a previous topic!). The reason why this topic came to my mind is basically that I was searching for something good to read earlier and realized I have a lot of famous books/series which I will probably never read. So let’s start!

#1 Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

20893527

This is actually the book that made me realize the fact that I own many famous books that will probably remain unread for the rest of my life. I am sure that Anne of Green Gables is a fantastic book and I’ve heard nothing but great things about it, but the thing is as followed: I, personally, should have read this when I was younger and then I probably would have loved it, as a children’s book.

#2 The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien

529015

Let’s make one thing clear here: I love the movies and I read half of the first book, I really tried. But the book was just so extremely boring, everything took forever, I always compared it to the fast-paced and suspenseful movie and reality struck: it just didn’t live up to my expectations. Therefore, something truly magical will have to happen to make me pick it up again.

#3 Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

I also tried reading this one, but the plot just wasn’t going anywhere. Again, I’ve only heard the most magical of things about this book and I am really torn about reading it again, to be honest. I recently read a review where a blogger also stated that she was utterly confused at the start but that it turned out totally worth it over time – so maybe, just maybe, I’ll give it another shot, but probably not in the near (or half near) future, for that matter.

#4 Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

I started reading this book last summer and I was very very very confused. The writing was simply too much for me, there were several people whose names started with H and then they were stated as “H. said”, I mean: why? Anyways, I have a complicated relationship towards this book because ever since it was mentioned it Twilight and 11 year old me thought it sounded too dramatic not to read, it’s been on my list. Turns out, I’m not made for over-complicated classics, so I will wait until I’m older and hopefully wiser.

#5 Legendary by Stephanie Garber

Yes, I did read Caraval and also enjoy it, but, to be honest, the story was kind of over then. I am one of those people who actually doesn’t find Tella intriguing, for me she was always just a little bit too much, I liked Scarlett’s calm and quiet way. That’s one of the reasons I probably won’t continue with this series (even though I’ve heard that it only gets better and better from here…), but who knows. I do own this book, so maybe…

#6 The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson

I had a major problem with Truly Devious‘s ending. To put it that way. I know many bloggers who felt the same way, yet said that the sequel would clear everything up and develop into a better story. However, I’m not sure if the promise of a better story is truly convincing for me and maybe that’s stuck up and maybe I’m not being entirely fair here, but I’m quite certain that I won’t continue…

That’s it for today, here you have my list of books that I’ll probably (never say never!) read! Tell me, do you have books you know you’ll probably never read? Feel free to comment! Have a great day and remember, Christmas is in two weeks!!! Happy reading!

I'm a huge fan of Draco Malfoy, I love scones and tea time, I don't like horror movies and obviously I'm a huge book nerd.

  1. I love this topic and list, I’m definitely going to have to steal it one day for a future freebie week! I have a ton of books (mostly classics) that I know I will never read. Also, I don’t think you are missing out on anything with not reading Lord of the Rings, imo 🙂

    1. Hahah, feel free to do so, it was so much fun! And oh, me too! My dad keeps getting all these classics for my birthday and Christmas and I just can’t get around (and myself) to read them! And that’s a relief, since almost everyone I know read it haha! Happy reading!

  2. I’ve read only LoTR and even I have no intention of reading the others too… I always love it when we have so much in common 👍👍👍😊😊

      1. It was a long time ago but I remember it took me a month to read the LoTR trilogy… I had more patience those days, don’t think I could finish it now… And I had already seen the movies, so that helped a bit… I still love the movies more 😍😍😍

  3. I love Anne of Green Gables though, it is so funny and cute!
And I would say you should read legendary, since it is so much better then Caraval haha! (even though I can see why you say the story felt over after Caraval!)

    1. I know, so many people keep telling me that Anne of Green Gables really enriched their life, and it kind of make me want to read it as well… to go back to my childhood and get away from the stressful life…
And haha, yeah, Caraval felt over… But I am intrigued to read Legendary as well…. Everyone keeps talking about Finale and how that was shocking and that they loved this certain aspect and I just want to know the ending haha!
      Happy reading!
