Let’s talk bookish: are TBR’s necessary to be considered a reader/blogger?

It’s Friday again (my exams are finally done) and I am super happy to take part in Let’s talk bookish hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books again! Today I’ll be discussing whether a to be read list is necessary to be considered a reader or blogger!

Is it necessary: no!

That’s definetely an easy question. There isn’t nor should there be any standard for being a blogger or reader other than writing a blog and actually reading a book. However, there are pros and cons to having a TBR list which are important to keep in mind for both the regular reader and the book blogger!

#1 TBR’s keep it organized

I’m not a very tidy person and if I would keep a hand-written list of all the books I like, see on other blogs and then want to read – it would end in total chaos. Therefore, keeping score of the books you’d love to read in form of an online list is one of the most effective ways to keep track of your next reads.

#2 TBR’s can be rewarding

I don’t know if any of you have experienced this, but whenever I click “read” on a book on my TBR list and the number of “want to read” books grows smaller, I feel satisfied and rewarded. Reading should never be a competition, but finishing a book feels like accomplishing a challenge – and when you’ve got a TBR to keep score, it’s great for that!

#3 TBR’s can be pressuring

Now to the dark side of a TBR list. I’m sure everyone has felt pressured when they saw the huge amount of books that are added and added to the list and you’re just thinking When am I going to find the time to read all of them? That’s the downside of it. You want to read every book on there because each book sounded interesting and that’s why you added it. But maybe you still have books from 5 years ago on there – that can be challenging.

#4 TBR’s can be chaotic

This is part of #3: when you have multiple hundred (a lot of people do!) books on your TBR list, there is no easy way of finding the perfect one for your current situation.

That’s it: I personally think TBR’s are a great way of organizing your bookish life, as long as you clean up the list once in a while and delete the books you no longer wish to read! So, what do you think – yes or no to TBR’s? Feel free to comment! Happy reading!

I'm a huge fan of Draco Malfoy, I love scones and tea time, I don't like horror movies and obviously I'm a huge book nerd.
