Let’s Talk Bookish: reading resolutions

Well, 2021 here we come – happy new year everyone! And with a new year, we all have our new year’s resolutions and sphere we go with my bookish (and personal included as well) resolutions! And not to forget: the discussion is as always hosted by  Dani @Literary Lion and Rukky @Eternity Books!

Don’t stress yourself

That counts for my blog: I’m often stressed and then I think – OMG I have to write a new post, I haven’t written one in so long. And then the blog becomes an extra stress factor and I don’t need that. I’ve been on a pretty good path in Nov/Dec of not writing any blog posts but on the same time not stressing about that fact, simply because I had other things to worry about.

That brings me to reading: don’t stress about having to forcefully read books. Do what makes you happy – and for me that’s reading something I enjoy when I have time. And that is the very important part: when I truly have time. Because with everything else in life, I often can’t find the time to read and then thinking oh I haven’t read in such a long time can be super stressful. Read when it feels right and not as an obligation.

Now to life: don’t stress about exams and high school finals (Abitur, we call it in Germany). I am super disciplined and really want to get great results, that’s the one thing I’ve really been working towards for the past two year. But that comes with stress and anxiety – I think and think and think that I won’t find the time to study, when in reality I always start early enough to get through without time pressure. I have the constant urge to be at my very best, to be perfect, and that can be super hard.

Don’t pressure yourself with book counts

That’s one thing I tend to do: look how many books I’ve read in a certain period of time and then be angry at myself because it’s not nearly as much as I want. And that has to stop: reading is an hobby and thinking about stats is never good for the soul.

That’s it – I think stress and pressure are my most important issues on which I have to work. Tell me: which are yours and what are your resolutions for 2021? Happy reading!

I'm a huge fan of Draco Malfoy, I love scones and tea time, I don't like horror movies and obviously I'm a huge book nerd.

  3. That was interesting, we do stress ourselves with endless tasks to complete. I’ve also decided to not stress about these little things such as writing a blog, meeting deadlines for tags etc and just go with the flow
