I haven’t done this Weekday Meme in over a month so today’s finally the time! I am super excited about my current book even if I only bought it three hours ago. This is a book I have heard so much about and therefore I’m VERY VERY excited to try this meme using it.
If any of you don’t know this principle, it works this way: You choose a book in your shelf or your current book and copy the first lines – without revealing the book. Then, afterwards, you reveal the book and write what’s on your mind.
So, without further do, here are the opening lines:
“We should start back,” Gared urged as the woods began to grow dark around them. “The wildlings are dead.” “Do the dead frighten you?” Ser Waymar Royce asked with just the hint of a smile.
Gared did not rise to the bait. He was an old man, past fifty, and he had seen the lordlings come and go, “Dead is dead,” he said. “We have no business with the dead.”
You might have guessed it already as this series is one of the most famous book series ever, but it was:
You guessed correctly, it’s George R. R. Martin’s famous A Game of Thrones.
I have only read the first thirty pages but from what I have read, it’s safe to say that I am fond of his writing style. He doesn’t write too complicated for the “Middle-Age” time the book is set in which I don’t usually like, but he also doesn’t write plain.
I am looking forward to finishing this book to finally have my own opinion on this famous series, book and TV likewise. Many of my friends love watching the series and I have also watched the first three episodes but couldn’t really connect. So here I am, double joyful that I like the book even though I didn’t click with the first episodes (I will watch them again after reading the book and the next time, I won’t stop after only three episodes.).
What do you think of the opening lines? I liked them, as much as you can like opening lines, because the book dives right into the story without describing something for ages as other books tend to do.
I really enjoyed writing this small entry, I hope you did, too, and have a great day!
