It’s Friday again, I am going to dinner with my whole family to say goodbye as it’s my last day in Vienna – but it also means that it’s time for Let’s talk bookish hosted by J.R. @ Eternity Books, where each Friday a certain bookish topic is discussed! Today I’ll list down the tips I wish an oldie blogger would have given me when I first started!
#1 Don’t get discouraged
It’s normal that at the start, your blog won’t have a lot of clicks, likes and comments. When I started, I was beyond happy to receive three likes, but sometimes I got discouraged believing it would never change – that people would never follow me or like what I write. But that’s not true: if you passionately write your blog, people will like what you write. If you love what you do, people will recognize that and begin to read your posts because they realize that you love to blog.
#2 Take your time
Don’t try to build up the perfect blog from 1-100 in a week or month. Take your time, think before everything you do and accept that your blog is new and will evolve through time by itself. When I started, I wanted to write thousands of entries at once and that’s what made them bad – because my mind wasn’t focussed on one post, but on everything I ever wanted to write.
#3 Check out your fellow bloggers!
What immensely helped me at the start was reading all the other posts and analyze how they did it. Did the others use subheadings – maybe I should try that as well! Did they use many paragraphs? – maybe that would make it easier to read! And besides only reading the posts: comment – people love to chat about their posts, books and will develop interest in what you have to say!

I wish I’d been told all of these as well! Especially the one about not getting discouraged. It was really hard the first few weeks because I was eager to write, but nobody seemed to be coming. I also did a lot of rushing, with design, and starting my blog in general, and if I had a chance to start over, I’d definitely take my time and not rush it. I’m glad that you shared these, and hopefully a newbie will see this and won’t make the same mistakes that we did! Great post 🙂
