Harry Potter Thursday

It’s Thursday again and therefore it’s time for my favorite Weekday Meme: Harry Potter THURSDAY. This will be a controversial post as I am talking about Fantastic Beasts

fullsizeoutput_25a0First of all, let me explain to you why I am posting this. I didn’t want to even watch Fantastic Beasts because I thought I might get really sad while hearing the Harry Potter music but not actually watching Harry. Second of all, I didn’t want to ruin how I feel about Harry Potter by watching this new movie. But since the film is on Netflix now, my mom thought we had an obligation to watch it.

So, here are my thoughts on Fantastic Beasts:

I did not enjoy the film because the movie had literally no story. It was nice to return to the wizarding world but not when all that happens is creatures being shown.

My thoughts on the first hour – so I don’t spoil:

A British wizard comes to NY to set a beast free – ok. Then there have been magical creatures that have been strolling around in NYC damaging houses – that could be really interesting, but during the first hour, there was almost nothing said about this problem! The only thing happening was the British wizard trying to find all his creatures that escaped his magical suitcase. Yes, the suitcase: there was a scene approximately five to ten minutes long showing us the inside of the magical suitcase – sort of like the Weasley tent in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire during the Quidditch World Championship. Many many animals or beasts as we can call them lived inside this rescue station that the British wizard had created for them. They were fed – for five to ten minutes?!

Second of all, the characters didn’t really fulfill the standards I expected from Rowling and actually made the wizarding world feel like a stranger to me. Also, the fact that Americans don’t call them “Muggles” really made me feel sad!

With this movie, I had the hope to return to all the things I love about Harry Potter but this movie just made the gap bigger.

Even stranger is how I feel about the spoilers of the second movie which I still have to watch:

Nagini is a woman?! Ok, that’s weird. And years after the reveal of Dumbledore’s sexuality why only lightly allude his love for Grindelwald? And second of all, who feels that Johnny Depp does not fit into Harry Potter? I mean, I like him but he doesn’t really correspond to the atmosphere!

So, here are my thoughts on the Fantastic Beasts franchise! Did you like the movie – please comment! Have a great day everyone!

I'm a huge fan of Draco Malfoy, I love scones and tea time, I don't like horror movies and obviously I'm a huge book nerd.
