Another day, another tag! Thanks so much for Sahi @myworldofbooks for tagging me and let’s get started!
#1 Totally didn’t need to have a sequel/sequels
My Lady Jane was one of the funniest books I’ve ever read: entertaining, suspenseful, awesome characters and a complex plot. How come then, that My Plain Jane was the complete opposite?! We’re still waiting for the third one and I hope that it’ll be good enough to change my mind because in my opinion, this book would have been better of being a standalone.
#2 Totally didn’t need to have more than one point of view
The Dark Artifices was too much (and especially Queen of Air and Darkness.) I didn’t care for many of the characters that had their own POV and so it would have been better to just have Emma or Emma and Julian. I do get that some plot lines wouldn’t have been possible with only one POV, but there were like seven or eight and that was TOO MUCH.
#3 Totally didn’t need to change cover art through the middle of a series
I just saw this over at Sahi’s blog, but this is so accurate?! The first one was WAY better and not half (actually not at all) as violent…
#4 Totally didn’t need a love triangle
The love triangle between America, Maxon and Aspen was annoying to the point of destruction. I have never liked Aspen, didn’t see the appeal and come on, Maxon was sooo much nicer (and also the Prince lol).
#5 Totally didn’t need this book to be included in this series.
I love Red Queen, I really do. But nothing happened in this book, it was the most unnecessary book I’ve ever read, I actually stopped at one point and picked it up half a year later because I couldn’t just abandon Mare, Cal and Maven. But OMG it was boring and nothing happened.
#6 Totally didn’t need a cliffhanger
Once again, I’ll go with Sahi’s answer here because it really bothered me. It’s not a cliffhanger, but an open ending at the end of War Storm that had me fuming (it is explained in Broken Throne, however!)
#7 Totally didn’t need to have just one point of view
Silver by Kerstin Gier has amazing characters through and through and although I don’t know how the plot would have been handled, I’d love to get an insight!
#8 Totally didn’t need that much hype
I mean I liked The Raven Cycle, but it was kind of overrated. In my opinion, it was too slow-paced, the POVs to unevenly distributed between the characters and some characters (Adam) very annoying. So yes, too much hype.
#9 Totally didn’t need a relative book reference (e.g. how a Hunger Games fan would love Divergent)
The Folk of the Air series, and especially after the release of Cruel Prince, it was often said that if you liked Red Queen, this’d be perfect – two completely different story lines and development as well as world and what am I saying: everything.
#1o Totally didn’t deserve my time
I was truly disappointed. Truly Devious wasn’t the mystery I’d hope it would be be.
Tagging: Kaya @afictionalbookworm – Sahi @myworldofbooks – Evelyn @evelynreads – Rendz @readingwithrendz (no pressure, as always!)
That’s it – I hope you had as much fun reading as I had writing this and happy reading!
Thanks for the tag! Indeed that cover change of Kiss of deception is bad..

Ahhh, thank you so much for the tag!! I LOVED reading your answers💜 I totally agree, The Raven Boys is WAY overhyped. And The Cruel Prince could definitely have had better comparisons, if it even needed comparisons at all! And YES I’m totally with you on The Selection. Why even think about Aspen when there’s a whole Maxon Schreave standing right there?😂 I hope you have an amazing month 🙂

I keep thinking I should give The Raven Boys another try because my tastes have changed a lot since I tried it and ultimately put it down a few years ago, but I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels like it’s a little over-hyped!

I know exactly how you feel – I had the exact same thought and maybe will do the same thing, but only when I really have time and no other new book to read, you know what I mean?
