Let’s talk bookish – bookish and blogging myths!

This is a new meme created and hosted by J.R. @ Eternity Books, where each Friday, a certain bookish topic is discussed! I personally love discussing bookish problems or topics and so I’m very excited to join this community – with the first topic: bookish and blogging myths!

#1 Everybody lives by the quote “Don’t judge a book by its cover”

Simply not true. I mean, a bad cover doesn’t automatically mean it’s a bad book – that’s for sure – but that doesn’t mean that I can’t choose between two books (which one to buy) and choose the one with the prettier or more intriguing cover. The thing is, YA often has terrible covers, especially fantasy, and so there have been tons of times where I haven’t looked at a book more closely because the cover was hideous. Simple as that.

# I blog – which means I have to read more than one book a week

Or something like that. I feel like a lot of people have the impression that all bloggers have to read tons of books each week to be a bookworm or a good blogger – but I know many bloggers who say that they don’t have time to read 5 books each week; and they still love books and still blog. With school and generally also life going on, I often only have time to read one book a week and sometimes I’m even happy I can accomplish that. So no, not every blogger must read millions of books each week.

#3 You’re only a real book lover when you’ve read and loved classics

That’s a common prejudice I have encountered. They say, just because I haven’t read or liked a lot of classics, that I’m not a book lover – but I am. I feel like in movies or books, all the bookworms read is classics – never fantasy or contemporary. But classics are just one tiny section in the world of books – and just because I don’t enjoy one genre, doesn’t mean that I’m not a real book lover!

That’s it for today – a smaller post, but I am not feeling that well and therefore, it’s getting harder and harder to get my brain to activate! Happy reading and enjoy your Friday!

    1. My amazing brain forgot to include my thoughts on Myth #2 in my previous comment. Yes, I agree It does seem like people think that to be a successful blogger, you have to read a ton of books every day/week and that you have to read all the new books and hyped books which is completely not true. I don’t read every new hyped book, and I still consider myself a successful blogger, and many others don’t do that either, but they still have a lot of followers and are loved by the community. It’s definitely an untrue expectation that some people have about blogging.

      1. Yes, that’s exactly what I mean! I do sometimes read hyped books, but not nearly as many as others and I’m usually behind anyways! So yes, I also think it’s totally unrealistic!!

  4. I totally agree with you! Even though I happen to adore reading the classics it doesn’t make me any more of a book lover than anyone else. That’s so ridiculous for people to say that. It’d be so boring if we all liked the same things. Here’s to a healthy variety of book lovers who love to read all sorts of genres :))) Fab post ❤

    1. Thanks so much! And yes! I also enjoyed some classics, but not because of their status as classic, but because of their story! And yes, it would be super boring if we all had the same opinions on everything!

  7. I do try to interweave classics throughout my year. I like to think it keeps me well rounded. But I certainly understand why others wouldn’t want to! And aside from that, it’s far from all I read.

      1. Me neither! Usually very dry, overly lengthy/wordy, too descriptive… like people always reference that first line of A Tale of Two Cities as being so wonderful… to me that’s a perfect example of why I disagreed so heavily with that book. Lol!
