Top Ten Tuesday: Unpopular Bookish Opinions

First of all, I am very sorry that I’ve been inactive for so long, currently I’m on vacation and I don’t have my Mac with me (currently using my aunt’s if anyone was wondering) and so I haven’t had the time to read anything, let alone write a review! But anyways, it’s Tuesday again and so I’m happy to finally be able to post something again: here’s my post on Unpopular Bookish Opinions!

#1: Organizing my bookshelves by color

I really admire book-nerds who can organize their shelves by color because, let’s be honest, it looks AMAZING. But I just can’t not have all my favorite books standing together or books of the same series/author/theme or genre. That would just drive me crazy and I need organization…

#2: Books vs. movies

I know, everyone always says books are always better than movies, but come on, you can’t just say something that covers over millions of books… It’s true, it almost always is the case, but not always, so I’m not a huge fan of that saying.

#3: Don’t judge a book by its cover

Ups, that’s totally me. Come on, as if you haven’t once bought a book because the cover looks great? When I spot pretty covers at a. bookstore, it’s more likely that I will pick up the book and look at it. When the cover is super super hideous, it’s very rare that I will pick up the book…

#4: Giving books time to develop

I know it’s not right to judge a book after a few pages, but if the start doesn’t interest me, it’s very hard to convince me afterwards. My dad always says Read the first page and if you like it, get the book and it’s true. If I enjoy the first page or chapter, it’s more likely that I will enjoy the book.

#5: Love Triangle Hype

There are a ton of books on love triangles and everyone seems to love them… Cassandra Clare (various ones), Leigh Bardugo, Katie Cotugno – everyone. And I have to admit, when the plot is good, I don’t mind it. But in general, it really annoys me because the authors always go with the person I didn’t ship.

#6: Dog ears

There are a lot of book lovers out there who would disagree and say dog ears are terrible, how can you do that to your books?, but personally, I love dog ears and really enjoy noticing them in a book that I loved.

#7: Paperback books you notice were read

I personally love really old, washed out paperback books. I love when you can tell by the spine that they were read, carried around and maybe on a journey. I get really excited when a new mark appears on the spine while I read, it’s the best part (one of the best parts, we can’t forget about the story itself).

#8: Bookmarks

I don’t know why I don’t like bookmarks, but they stress me out. I know a lot of people love them and own several, maybe also fan bookmarks, but I’ve never liked them. Dog ears are way better. The only bookmark I ever liked was one I stole from a hotel in Paris, which is gorgeous.

#9: The genre MYSTERY and their ending

This is probably not the best opinion as I haven’t read many mystery books, but I always enjoy the story a lot and then I’m terribly disappointed by the ending. When for example the murder isn’t solved or the murderer isn’t a surprise or when people disappear and were never found. For example, I really enjoyed Paper Towns and was truly amazed by the whole story and the build-up and then the ending came and I was just really disappointed or I also loved the story of Truly Devious but the ending was okay (I have to read the sequel tho, so don’t judge).

#10: Romance – the genre

I just don’t like it. There often isn’t any suspense and the story doesn’t really vary (ok, that’s not true, but you find a lot of similarities and that annoys me). I don’t mind when there is a small love story, but it definitely shouldn’t be the focus of the book because I need a proper story line with a goal or a evil wizard or somebody who wants to kill the protagonist or just some factors other than romance that are relevant. Sorry.

That was it, I hope you’re not all too offended by the things I don’t like or like that everyone seems to love or hate! Enjoy your day!

I'm a huge fan of Draco Malfoy, I love scones and tea time, I don't like horror movies and obviously I'm a huge book nerd.

  1. There are plenty of movies I like better than the books! Also if I don’t snap judge a book by its cover why else would I pick it up? I can’t tell you how many books I’ve wound up reading solely because the cover called to me. Probably everything I ever buy in a bookstore! Great list 🙂

  2. I could never organize my books by colour, I feel like it just makes it messier and more confusing to find the books I want! Even though it does look pretty! I like the look of worn paperbacks too! My copy of The Penderwicks is quite loved! Great answers!

    1. Yes, that’s exactly why I couldn’t organize them by color! It would drive me crazy! And I totally understand you, I love it when they looked loved, it’s exactly the same with my Penderwicks editions!
