I have talked about some of my favorite authors in form of tags or reviews, but not every of my favorite authors has been mentioned, so here’s a small post!
#1 Cassandra Clare
Books I read: The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices
Why I love her: I love her because despite writing so many books set in the same world, where Shadowhunters fight demons, she still manages to give each series a personal touch, a special focus, twists and secrets. Her characters are so unique and special that every book turns out different due to their character based actions. Something really special that always makes me happy is when the protagonist of one series appears as a side character in another. Or the fact that Magnus Bane is immortal and therefore plays a role in all three of her series. And on top of all that, I just really admire her creativity. No, she won’t stop after one or two series, she is filled with ideas that are so magical, powerful and strong that her stories delight so many millions of people.
Favorite Quote: “As long as you exist and I exist, I will love you.”
#2 J.K. Rowling
Books I read: all the Harry Potter books and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Why I love her: That is very simple. She has created the most powerful fictional world that ever existed. Her characters, but also the whole wizarding world lives on because of her imagination and love for detail. What really is important, tho, is how many great sentences Rowling has offered us over the years that are true and meaningful despite of the world’s fiction.
Favorite Quote: “After all this time?” “Always.”
#3 Leigh Bardugo
Why I love her: Because of her damn good stories. Her stories are accompanied by her incredible writing style, full of power, longing and determination and her characters are unique and I would read books about every one of them. Her stories are so complex, with many characters and their way of coping with their past and trying to chose the right future that many plots coexist and many obstacles are overcome simultaneously. However, at no point during the story is there too much of a story like too many crises but too little time; or too many stories that coexist but aren’t good.
Favorite Quote: “May Djel watch over you until I can once more.”
#4 Victoria Aveyard
Books I read: The Red Queen Series
Why I love her: I love her because her series fascinated me in ways no other series has. I loved every tiny tiny bit of her stories. Her world is so full of tragedy, hate, conspiracy, love and politics, I have not read about a more powerful rebellion and revolution. What is so fantastic about her books is the characters’ drive: they not only long for a change, they live for it, and are willing to die. I think the determination and willfulness of the series really makes it special. And, I have not read books (besides Harry Potter) that offers so many powerful sentences to cry over.
Favorite Quote: “I could set the world on fire and call it rain.”
#5 Jeanne Birdsall
Books I read: The Penderwicks (all of the five books)
Why I love her: You see, it isn’t that much Jeanne Birdsall’s ability of creating suspense or the complexity of her stories, it’s rather her simplicity of creating a simple but powerful, interesting and funny story that can happen to everyone. The way she builds up the family consisting of the Penderwick sisters, their father and their dog, people fall in love with the characters’ charms and their maturity.
Favorite Quote: “The referee told me this league has never had a brawl of that magnitude,” said Mr. Penderwick after a long, painful silence. “Of course, at the time I was pretending to be a casual passerby and not a father at all.”
#6 Marissa Meyer
Books I read: The Lunar Chronicles
Why I love her: Because she is incredibly funny. Books that make you so easily laugh as the Lunar Chronicles are hard to find. Her books are filled with many different characters that all have other strengths and weaknesses but are all fantastic. I loved the whole “retelling theme” and that not the whole series focussed on Cinder and the retelling of Cinderella, but that each book had its own new protagonist adding to the Rampion Crew and that each book contained a new retelling.
“Do you think it was destiny that brought us together?”
He squinted and, after a thoughtful moment, shook his head. “No. I’m pretty sure it was Cinder.”
#7 Kerstin Gier
Books I read: The Ruby Red Series, The Silver Series
Why I love her: This is focused on only Silver because Ruby Red I enjoyed at age 12 but would now never read again. Her books are filled with such natural but funny situations and the protagonist is so normal, with no special abilities or no extraordinary physical appearance but is lovable because of her humor and her brain.
Favorite Quote: “Hearts can’t be broken because they’re made of marzipan.”
#8 Jennifer Estep
Books I read: The Black Blade series, The Mythos Academy Series, Elemental Assassin 1&2
Why I love her: I have read her books three years ago and I still love them because no matter what else I read, I still enjoy the characters and plots. I especially loved the worlds she created with a touch of fantasy and magic but the rest being the same. She also has a humor that would sound forced when other authors use it but comes across naturally with her.
Favorite Quote: “You might say that I was a sort of modern-day Robin Hood, merrily stealing from the rich. Only I never, ever gave my loot away for free.”
#9 John Green
Why I love him: I feel John Green’s stories are just so different from every other stories. They are either spectacular and you wonder how he comes up with such an idea (like Paper Towns) or face the hard truth of reality (like The Fault in Our Stars). I did not love every book he wrote and often I am not satisfied with the ending but he has an incredible talent for writing and the way he writes is very rare to find, at least for me.
Favorite Quote: “No one ever says goodbye unless they want to see you again.”
#10 Enid Blyton
Books I read: Famous Five (all 21 books), the St. Clare’s series, The Island of Adventure
Why I love her: I was obsessed with Enid Blyton from age four to probably ten. I loved all of her characters and thought her stories were magical and had an amazing plot. Only now I realize that they are simply on the level of primary school reader’s and of course, they should be like that. But even though her writing isn’t precisely extraordinary, she had the imagination to create hundreds of lovable characters and stories and I assume not many people can say they have thought of as many stories as she has, simple as they might be. But I know I couldn’t live with myself if she hadn’t been on this list simply because she had such a big impact on my early life and introduced me to the magic of books.
Favorite Quote: “Two Trees. Gloomy Water. Saucy Jane. And Maggie knows too.”
I hope you enjoyed this different post style! Tell me, what are your favorite authors? Have a great day!
