Top Five Tuesday

Since Top Five Tuesday hosted by Bionic Book Worm is one of my favorite themes for my daily entries and I don’t have school tomorrow (lucky me) and therefore have all the time in the world, I’m blogging today’s challenge Top Five Tropes I want more of!

First things first, let me clarify what a “trope” is because before this challenge, I had no idea what they wanted of me. A “trope” is a reoccurring theme, plot or cliché in books. For example, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson or Katniss Everdeen are “the chosen ones” and that would also be a trope.

#1. Trope: Riddles

What can I say? After finishing Truly Devious I realized I’m super into riddles as I love and welcome any challenge (not sports tho) presented to me. I just love the thrill of solving them and the feelings of pride and happiness overwhelming you when you have solved one.

#2. Trope: Heists

I love heights when talking about books. I like it when authors talk about preparing a heist or a chase but don’t reveal all the character’s plans and then you are completely overwhelmed by their actions. I am, if you haven’t noticed, talking about Six of Crows, but I guess it’s hard to guess so.

#3. Trope: Moody old people who then develop a great friendship with a young person

This is ADORABLE. I love when this happens because these scenarios tend to have such a powerful, meaningful and deep friendship that people of the same age sometimes are not capable of having. To be honest, I haven’t read any books I can remember right now (unless Harry and Dumbledore count) where this scenario has occurred by I love some scenes of movies where this has melted my heart: First of all, The Intern. Isn’t Robert DeNiro addorable playing the role of the intern. And isn’t his and Anne Hathaway’s growing friendship to die for? Secondly, I love Luke’s and Walt’s friendship from Modern Family soooo cute?

#4. Trope: CatchPhrases

I love phrases everyone knows and which are famous and people connect to a certain book or series. I love them because each time I read a sentence like this I think about the time I read the book and get all emotional and love the book even more. Here are some of my favorite CatchPhrases:

“Mischief Managed!” from Harry Potter

“Okay? Okay” from The Fault in Our Stars

“We will rise, red as the dawn.” from Red Queen

“After all this time? Always.” from Harry Potter – this is by far the most emotional for me.

#5. Trope: A fake relationship

I don’t know why but whether I read it in books or watch it on TV, I always enjoy fake relationships because at some point you always laugh and you always have to smile seeing how these characters might hate themselves but have to act happily in love. I just love it. I haven’t read books with this particular trope as the main plot, just always as a side story or two people pretending for an evening but it’s always funny. But I do love the movies Just Go With It with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston and The Proposal with Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock.
